Welcome to Troop 1570 of the National Capital Area Council, Powhatan District! We are located in Herndon, Virginia and our chartered sponsor is the Clearview Elementary School PTA. The troop was founded in 1973 and has been a real success due to devoted leadership and parental involvement. With an average registration of 45 scouts and 15 scouters, we meet on a weekly basis with the exception of holidays. The Monday evening meetings are held at the Clearview Elementary School (map) Cafeteria from 7:00 - 8:30. The 3rd Monday of the month is set aside for our Patrol Leaders Council (PLC), held at the Kingston Chase pool clubhouse (map) from 7:00 - 8:00, where the scouts plan upcoming meetings and events followed by the Troop Committee meeting from 8:00 to 9:00. If you are interested in joining the Troop feel free to stop by and visit one of our meetings.

We recently celebrated the award of the 118th Eagle Rank to be earned by Troop 1570 scouts.

With outdoor activities planned monthly, we meet the needs of the camping and backpacking enthusiasts. We attend a different summer camp each year as we have found the scouts like the diversity of experiences. We  maintain a rotation of backpacking at Philmont, sailing and snorkeling at the Florida Sea Base and canoeing the boundary waters at the Canadian Northern Tier High Adventure Base. Other high adventure activities include Biking down the C&O Canal, Hiking on the Appalachian Trail and white water rafting on the Ohiopyle River. The troop attends 2 Camporees yearly, hosted by our district, the Powhatan District.  We have lots of monthly troop outings on the agenda as well.

Troop 1570 developed and maintains this website for a variety of reasons including:

  • Keeping our Scouts and Scouting families informed. The Internet provides the fastest way to communicate schedule changes, and late breaking news.
  • Sharing our adventures with family, friends and the Scouting community.
  • Letting our community and the world know about our Troop, its activities and objectives.
  • Scouting offers something for our community's youth and gives back to the community through service projects. Most people aren't aware of this and we hope to add yet another way of communicating this through the Internet. And hey, we may even get lucky and recruit some new Scouts to our Troop!

We hope you enjoy your visit to virtual Troop 1570!
